DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMME ON THE THERAPEUTIC APPLICATION OF SOUND AND MUSIC
 

A Unique Programme in Music Therapy. Sitting pretty at one’s own home, through internets one learns what is music and music therapy. The course is designed to create an awareness on the basic concepts and practice-both ancient and modern-relating to Music Therapy. One can complete the course anytime between 6 months to 9 months-or extending on the pace with which he or she wants to pursue. Thus the course is participant-friendly.

The programme thoughtfully and Feelingly designed. Consists of nine structured lesions and many, many bits and pieces of leisure reading, listening for contemplation and conclusion. The bits and pieces include musical pieces, group discussion points to be brain-stormed by the participants and other useful supplementary reading materials. The course also permits an informal dialogue between the Course Directors and the participants on all points that need to be clarified for better comprehension. All the participants are encourage to be innovative in all their communications/assignments, besides being highly analytical. Only on completion of an Assignment attached to a Lesson, next lesson will reach the Participant’s inbox.

Get free of cost the complementary DICTIONARY OF MUSIC & MUSIC THERAPY compiled by T. V. Sairam, immediately on joining, a ready-for-publication dictionary on Music and Music Therapy will be sent absolutely free of cost to each participant’s email address as a gift from the Centre. Yet another reference material THE WORLD OF MUSIC will also form the Second Lesson. Both can be treasured by the Participants for years as a dependable reference during their career as successful music therapists.

Eligibility of the Participants: Graduation in any discipline. If the participant is a graduate, but with proficiency in music, he or she can be considered, provided their English language comprehension is good. Please note that no prior knowledge of any kind of music is required to participate in this course. As music is universal, no orientation to a particular style/genre of music is considered necessary. Only the love for music with an ear for it is all expected from the Participants. (It will of course, be an added advantage if the participant has an academic background of subjects such as music, medicine or psychology)

CERTIFICATES AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE COURSE :

At the end of the programme, there will be no examination. However, the participants gets tested and evaluated for each and every assignment to develop a grip on the subjects. It is practical approach adopted to problem-solving by the participants, which gets evaluated. As the basic objective of this programme is to create an awareness relating to sound, music and silence, full emphasis is given for practical assignments rather that for the theory. The participants is thus expected to develop a "special ear" for sound and music to analyze and evaluate a musical structure – by the him he or she completes the programme. Eight assignments and a dissertation have been found to develop not only the analytical ability of a participants on the character of music, but also a deep insight into music and its mysterious impact.

Certification by NADA Centre of Music Therapy does not guarantee any employment, though it adds value to one’s CV. However, of late several institutions/universities have acknowledged the work done by the Centre.

T.V. SAIRAM’S TEN-POINT MUSIC THERAPY

  1. Listen to music with all yours heart; never with your mind.
  2. Enjoy music; never analyze.
  3. Listen to Cheering/Activating/Beta Music at least for 10 minutes continuously, whenever you feel dull or depressed.
  4. Activates such as driving, cooking, bathing or rating becomes more enjoyable. with Cheering/Activating/Beta Music.
  5. During the bedtime, listen to gentile/Relaxing/Alpha Music with lots of iteration, having monotonous rhythms, to get sleep.
  6. When overwhelmed with disappointments in life or loss, listen to sad/Soothing/Emotionally-rich music.
  7. Actual singing or playing at least one musical instrument enriches the quality of life.
  8. Let children develop a habit of co-existence with one or other forms of music; Classical, modern folk, filmy are all welcome.
  9. Have a Gentle/Relaxing/Alpha Music available all the time around infants, children, elders and the sick.
  10. Avoid using ear-phones; if at all it has to be used, ensure that the volume is very low. (Several adolescent using i-Pod with volume between 95 dB and 100 dB have reported temporary loss of hearing.)
